सांख्य की उपादेयतासांख्यदर्शन में सृष्टि के तीन स्तरों पर विचार किया गया है। सृष्टि के तीन स्तरों का प्रमाण हमें अपनी तीन अवस्थाओं से प्राप्त हो जाता है १ जाग्रतावस्था में इन्द्रियों के माध्यम से हम बाह्य स्थूल जगत् से जुड़ते हैं।२ स्वप्नावस्था में बुद्धि आदि के सूक्ष्म शरीर-जगत् में गतिविधि होती है।३ सुषुप्ति में हम कारण जगत् में होते हैं, जहाँ प्रकृति के तीनों गुणों की साम्यावस्था होने से दुःख लेशमात्र नहीं होता है।उपासना से तात्पर्य है कि तीसरी; सुषुप्ति अवस्था के समान चौथी; तुरीयावस्था को इच्छानुसार पाना । तदर्थ तन व मन की समस्त हलचल को रोकना होता है। उपासना के ही व्यापक क्षेत्र में आत्मा व मन की ग्रन्थि से सम्बन्धित अनेक विषय आ जाते हैं। यथा, इस ग्रन्थि से आत्मा को बन्धन कैसे प्राप्त होता है, बन्धन के परिणामस्वरूप होने वाले दुःख की विवेचना, बन्धन से मुक्ति के उपाय, इत्यादि ।सांख्य दर्शन, उपासना की विवेचना का प्रथम ग्रन्थ है। इन कारणों; सृष्टि के तीन स्तर और उपासना, से सांख्य का अत्यधिक महत्त्व है। छह वैदिक दर्शनों में यह पहला ग्रन्थ है जो सूत्र शैली में है। योग.दर्शन की नींव सांख्य पर ही है। सांख्य को समझे बिना योग नही समझा जा सकता है और न ही अन्य दर्शन, उपनिषद् और वेद ।दुर्भाग्य से सांख्य का कोई आर्ष भाष्य उपलब्ध नहीं है। प्रस्तुत भाष्य इस कमी को पूरा करने का एक प्रयास है। सांख्य में ईश्वर, वेद, उपासना विधि का समुचित वर्णन है किन्तु आधुनिक युग के कुछ व्याख्याकारों ने सांख्य को नास्तिक दर्शन कहा है। ऐसी अनेक मान्यताओं का निराकरण प्रस्तुत भाष्य में सप्रमाण किया गया है।
